Pair of Antique Gien Shallow Ironstone Bowls
A pair of antique shallow bowls from Faincerie de Gien, one of France’s most prestigious ceramic houses, marked “terre de fer,” meaning ironstone in French. Thought to have been made in the mid to late 1800s, when Gien named many of their 19th century designs after cities. These pieces are apart of their Athens range.
These rare and valuable pieces are made of opaque porcelain and ironstone. The blue floral garland design is refined yet charming. These shallow bowls bring a touch of true French history to your table. Whilst they make the perfect aesthetic pasta bowl, we also think these would also be beautifully styled as trinket bowls, displayed in open shelving or hung on the wall in your kitchen.
These rare pieces, which are estimated to be between 120 and 140 years old, are in good, usable condition with no chips or cracks. We love to wonder about the meals they have hosted and the stories they were apart of along the way. They have pottery crazing and small age marks consistent with wear, but this is part of their charm. Hand wash only.
